Raptors gewinnen in Starnberg 35:14

“It was important to get the first official win of the season behind us, even though we had two very successful pre-season scrimmages; this was an important mile stone and confirmation, especially after the tuff loss against the Comets last week. I am very pleased with the performance, but there is still a lot of potential. Our goal is to pick up where we left off and get some good momentum going.  We got off to a rocky start this game, making some mental errors, but I was pleased to see our mental strength and ability to overcome, sticking to the game plan, trusting the system and scoring the first drive.  One of my biggest concerns is our red zone offense. If we want to have any long term success, we have to take advantage of good field position and scoring opportunities, it’s really hard to see us walk away from three TD’s after incredible drives – that hurts. We’re going to work on this right away and I’m confident we’ll get it fixed. Starnberg was a great test for us; they are a very physical team which forces us to play smart, fast and effective. We fortunately prepared very well for this game, we had a good game plan but even more importantly we were able to execute that game plan. Even though we have a very balanced offense and we spread the ball around well, our ability to execute is a credit to our on-field leadership, preparation and hard work. Our QB Jason Bertrand is a hell of football player, he has the three “I’s” that I look for in a football player “Intangibles”, “Individual Effort” & “Improvisation”, he put all three of those “I’s” into effect, taking home the offensive MVP award and executing what had to be done.  Overall we were fortunate to achieve all our team goals, the offense put out 78 plays, with a total of 415 yards, Our O-line did an outstanding job, rushing yards of 293 yards with an average of 7,7 yards per carry and no sacks. Our running back Lucas Straub carried the run game with 166y, kids a tank.  But my happiest moment of the game is when our first time rookie Felix, caught his first pass, in his first game of his life for a 50 yard touchdown pass –  that’s what it’s all about, I bet he is still smiling, what a joy that was to see. Defense did a great job, they only allowed 123 yards and 1 TD, controlled the pass game and shut down the run game.  If you look at our stats, everyone is making tackles, sticking to their assignments, making good decisions and playing 60 minutes of passionate football. Gabriel Schneider took home our defensive MVP award, but I’ll be giving out about 20 more outstanding achievement awards tomorrow, they all did their job. We are committed to getting better each week, our motto is “Stay Humble, Stay Hungry & Stay Healthy”, so it’s back to the film room tonight and hopefully we are able to have another successful game on Saturday, one day at a time, Win the Day! “– Coach Johnson
